If you get lost in the woods, just keep calm. As soon as you come realization of the fact and have friends along in the woods start shouting.
When someone is missing for a longer period the police are among the first to do searches with dogs. They usually also take help of people who are used to moving in forest and land, such as hunters and for example hikers. Along the coasts there is the sea rescue that makes searches, and in the mountains it is mountain rescue. After a couple of hours, people will start looking after you. Then it’s important to make yourself heard!
The best way is to shout, but if you become raspy or feel that you have to rest, you can beat a piece of wood against a tree trunk. This can be heard longer than you might think.
Trying to find a wayout of the forest always leave tracks in your paths. Never take of your clothes and leave them as traces. You can hang things up tree branches, if you have a plastic bacs or something else or make crosses of tree branches.
Another tip is that you collect sticks and shape them as arrows which can show the direction you walked. And if there is snow? In this case you can set up a big cross of branches somewhere in an open space in the woods. You can also collect stones and write ‘SOS’ with big letters.
